SOME TRENDS SHOULD NEVER DIE!

10.04.2006: Okay, seriously..... I know Dave Lambert was one bad ass runner. He was a member of multiple cross national team champions (including this picture of the 1989 Cross Champions), ran around 14:19 indoors for 5k, and 29:55ish outdoors for the 10 spot.... but was he also a member of Flock of Seagulls during his collegiate days?! Could someone please tell me if this was acceptable in 1989?? Awesome if it was.... damn, they should bring it back.... but it's just so hard to believe that while I was playing Nintendo in 2nd grade, there were people walking around like this. If there was a Fashion Hall of Fame for cross runners, Lambert would be my #1 pick!
CALVIN DOMINATES, KAUL SEPARATES

** check out the new threads! The best i've seen yet.
10.2.2006: As expected, Calvin controlled the race from the start and never looked back, scoring 31 points for the win. They put 5 in front of Oshkosh's second, with their 6th in the mix with UWO's 2-5. Definitely nothing unexpected..... also unexpected was Willy Kaul's breakthrough opener in which he took over the lead in the first mile and cruised to a meet winning, 24:28 (which, to my knowledge is the school record as nothing from Credit Island should ever count). Willy is fit and has proven his abilities to contend with the best in the nation. Mike Ormond did put on an early race scare with an opening 2:22 half, but faded over the final 4 ½ miles. UWO had very fluent pack running from 2-5 with only small separation coming in the last mile. Look for that group to move up continuously throughout the season as they begin their taper for the one's that matter.
RESULTS PICS (only about 20 or so..... i've given up anything serious)
MAKING WISCO PROUD, ONE KENYAN-DOMINATION AT A TIME!

6.10.06: Last mile in 4:01, last 800 in 1:58, last 400 in :57...... I've seen and heard of some pretty incredible performances and this would definitely be ranked right up there as one of the guttsiest ever. Congrats Chris!

(if ever there was a thrower badass enough to make the front page of a strictly running-related site, it would be this player right here!)

UWO DISTANCE CREW ROLLS HILLSDALE 10k

As was greatly anticipated, the crew of Nick Boehlke, Willy Kaul and Brian Kelley came up with career-best performances last night at the Gina Relays. Nick ran for the win and simultaneously managed to take down a 14-year old school record by running 29:52 (previously held by Dave Lambert set back in 1992with a time of 29:54). Willy also had a very impressive performance following close behind with an automatic qualifying time of 30:07. Not bad for the first 10 spot ever! And closing out the squad was Brian Kelley who ran a huge 30:25 to PR by who knows how much, and to also run a time that was four seconds off a time that would have gotten him into nats last year! –which, I might add may get him in this year based off of the lack of fast times at Penn this weekend. Great job guys!!
NCAA D.III INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

3.12.05 Congrats to the WIAC on their strong performances at this past weekends national championships. Special congrats to Marcia Taddy, Robin Jarocki, Kevin Becker, Nate Olson, Nick Pergande, and the UWL DMR and 4x400 who all brought home event titles in each of their respective events. It was an exciting weekend to say the least.

******Also congrats to Chris Solinsky who pulled in his second consecutive 3000m title at the D.1 Champs.
WIAC CONFERENCE CHAMPS

3.5.06: Based on paper and historical performances, there were no major surprises as to how things turned out at this weekend’s conference meet. However, by no means does that mean that the races weren’t exciting! On the women’s side, Julia Rudd and Marcia Taddy came away with double victories over some of the nation’s best competition (Taddy in the 800/1500 and Rudd in the 3k/5. Both showed they will be favorites in their respective events in Minnesota this coming weekend. In the women’s 800, Jessica Scott of UWP showed that inexperience will not be a factor in the 800 as she ran one of the smartest races of the day; and in trials of all places, Megan Kielar and Jenna Mitchler picked up auto marks of 2:12.60 and 2:12.74 . In men’s action, conference wins for distance events were bittersweet as the top performers of the weekend will not be represented next weekend at nationals. Nick Boehlke of UWO has finally come around to his true form with 3k/5k victories in 8:37 and 14:45. Unfortunately neither his mile nor his 5k time will get him in to the big dance (editors note: his mile time has in fact gotten him in). UW Riverfalls will also not be at nationals after there incredible come-from-behind win over UWP in the DMR. There time of 10:12 is looking to be about 4 seconds away from the cut-off.

UWSP INVITE
2.27.06: I'm running a little behind on this, but here it is any ways. The Pointer Invite this past weekend provided some clean family fun with the DMR (UWL and UWO both getting strong qualifiers on the men's side and UWP on the women's) as well as the 1500 which saw a personal best from Nick Boehlke who has long claimed a miler profile but had not proved this until Saturday. Marcia Taddy also ran an amazing negative split in the 800 to dominate the D.III competition. All performances led me to believe there will be some exciting races in the next two weekends.

FORMER WIAC RUNNERS ROLL AUSTIN MARATHON
2.21.2006: Dan Sutton (UWL), Ryan Meissen (UWWW) and Jason Ryf (UWSP) tore it up with US Marathon Championship qualifying times this weekend at the Austin Freescale Marathon. Sutton, running his first ever marathon clocked 2:17:53 with Meissen close behind in 2:18:02. Ryf was just minutes back in 2:20:43. Congrats to Dan on the huge debut and championship qualifying standard!
TITAN INVITE II
2.18.2006: Titan Invite #2 went as well as expected. Special note goes to the 5k in which Dave Billings of Ripon and Nick Boehlke ran 14:41 and 14:51 respectively. The times were decent but the fact that there were over 20 guys on the track getting lapped made the efforts that much more impressive. Also, Paul Brown made his return to racing after a 2-year drought with a big 8:46 3k which will be good enough to get him into conference where he'll do some real damage.

THE FUTURE OF THE WIAC

2.11.06: Every few months, I'll see something happen that will leave me asking myself afterwards, "Did that just happen?!"....las night's Warhawk Classic was just that sort of event. I went in expecting to see some decent times and potential PR's and left realizing I saw the future stars of the WIAC. Most notable were Brian Butzler of Whitewater who ran a personal best 4:13 in one of best run races I've ever seen, and Nate Boehlke of UWO who proved that he will have what it takes to close with the best of them at this March's indoor national meet with his huge PR of 1:52.95 in the 800. Both runners made there emergence onto the national scene last night, and both ran like seasoned vets against some of the best competition in the nation. Also notable was Nick Boehlke who made his season debut in the 5k with a win in 15:02 (.... a win's a win) and Ryan Richardson of UWO who had a big PR with his 15:18 effort.

TITANS PROVE WORTHY OF TROPHY IN MARCH

2.5.06: The Titan men put on one of the best overall team performances in years. In all events from the throws to distance, the Titans are beginning to establish their pursuit of a trophy in March. In distance action, Willy Kaul started things off right with a 14:44 PR. Willy was 800m away from a 14:35 and is sure to progress on this mark the next time out. In the 800, Cal Kromm and Matt Groose battled it down to the line where Cal just leaned out the king of the indoor 4-lapper with a time of 1:53.17 proving that last week's mile gave no justice to his capabilities. Don't count out the King just yet.... this was his second time on the track since last June and he will be back at it in Whitewater this weekend to demonstrate why he is so feared at this distance. Also to note in the 800, Nate Boehlke came up with a huge PR and his first ever provisional mark with his time of 1:54.82. He will also be at WW this weekend, and is fully capable of bringing that down on the purple expressway.

UWO INVITE...TIME TO GET SERIOUS!
2/1/06: Word is on the street that the 5k at this weekend's UWO Invite is set to blaze with a loaded field. Include in the field will be Henry Dennis (coming of his 14:30/8:30 double last weekend), Willy Kaul coming off his 8:31 PR, and Tyler Sigl who will be looking for a big qualifier after last weeks 4:11. (note: I was told Tyler will be running but cannot confirm 100%). Also look for a fast mile, 800 and a potentially strong 3k. Pics will be up from the meet on Sunday night.
NEW TITAN MAKES BIG NEWS ON TRACK SCENE!

1.15.05: UWO's newest track standout Cal Kromm, has set an early season mark to prove that he will be a person to watch this coming spring. Cal ran a blistering 8:28 at the UWO Invite, making for a very even-split, solo effort. The race, which is not Cal's forte, was merely a warmup for some big races yet to come. Watch for a very fast mile coming to a track near you!
UWO SAYS FARWELL TO ONE OF IT'S GREATS!
2.20.2005: Super Super Super 1/2 Super Senior Chris McKenna has brought his legendary college career to an end this semester after finishing up his student teach. No he's not a doctor, no he doesn't have multiple majors, but damn is he one great guy! Oshkosh will miss Christopher as he pursues other endevours in his life of crime.

BADGERS DOMINATE.....NO MORE WAITING!

11.22.05: For only the second time this season, the Badger's put together their full squad in what was assured to be their best performance of the season, and they did not disappoint. Although a slow opening 5k of 14:55 may have prove dangerous for the strength-oriented Badgers, it did very little to hinder their front running dominance. Over the final kilometers Solinsky, Withrow and Nelson were able to move up at least 5 additional spots from their already strong top 20 positions while Bairu, Ford and Eagon held consistent to their standings. Bairu ran the second 5k in 14:21 which secured him the victory over Richard Kiplagat of Iona. The Badgers have finally succeeded in capturing the title that has eluded them over the last three runner-up finishes by amassing a minute 37 points. This is the Badgers first victory in 17 years. **special note: as many of you may know, this was the first year that NCC did not trophy in the D.III race in over 15 years.....to coincide with this streak, this is the first year since 1999 that Colorado has not had an individual or a team title for the national meet.

LAX EAGLES FLY TO VICTORY!

11.20.2005: This weekend's national meet proved that prediction's are relatively useless heading into the final dance. The pressure will overwhelm some and they will falter, while others will rise to the occasion and use that same pressure to perform better than others. The men's race began with a several different individuals trying to win the race before 2 miles. Many of these individuals paid the consequences and even fewer made the finish line. Those who remained relaxed early on were those how made the distance in the end. Among this group was Neal Holtschulte of Williams College who countered a late-race surge by Macharia Yuot en route to becoming this year's national champion with a winning time of 25:13 - 13 seconds over a fading Yuot. Following Yuot was Tim Finnegan of Calvin who made a late race surge to pass Tyler Sigl of UWP in the final meters. The team race was full of suprises. With LAX losing the help of Mike Herlihy and Calvin fading badly in the second half of the race, it appeared as though the team race was wide open. However LAX closed harder than anyone in the field and pulled down the victory, 94-117. The Eagles were led by seniors Boomer Creger and Nate Hoffman who finished 15 and 17 respectably. Finishing out the Eagles scoring were Kevin Oelstrom (36), John Heitzman (46), and Scott Mueller (49). The Eagles ran like that had something to prove, and that they did. For at least the next 364 days, they are the defending national champions.
On the women's side, a new face emerged in the field of dominant runners, with true sophmore Hailey Harren of Gustavus Adolphus pulling in the win in her first national appearance. Julia Rudd, who finished off her stellar cross country season with a strong runner-up finish, spoke to Hailey prior to the race who stated she was simply hoping for a top 35 finish. Jullia led the lady Eagles to a fourth place finish. The SUNY Geneseo ladies, led by freshman Elizabeth Montgomery, won the women's title with 87 points. 20 points ahead of Williams College.
***Although the weather was nice, it is to be noted the course was one of the toughest I have ever seen and those who disrespected it, clearly paid the price.

2005 NCAA D.III C.C. NATS PREVIEW
1.13.05:This weekend's NCAA Div.III National C.C. Championships has been speculated upon for the the last six months......now we're six days away from the final determination of who's who. In the men's team race the Calvin Knights will try to defend their title against the threat of the LAX Eagles who have been equally dominant throughout the season. UW Oshkosh, Nebraska Weslyan, Tufts, Haverford, and many others will most likely battle it out for the 3rd and 4th place trophy spots. The individual race features several big names including Macharia Yuot, Tim Finnegan, Neal Hotschulte, Mike Sawicki, Tyler Sigl, along with several other key individuals on the UWO and UWL squads who could battle it out up front. In the women's team race, SUNY Geneseo is coming off of a very dominant Regionals performance and will battle it out with Williams, UWL, and Wash U. for the trophy spots. For the individual title, undefeated Julia Rudd will battle the likes of Amanda Kuca, Caroline Cretti, Shauneen Garrahan among others. Preseason results are now meaningless....time to see who's ready when it counts! MEET SITE
